The Foster Care System is Broken

America’s child welfare system is badly broken — and children can suffer serious harm as a result. Some will be separated from their siblings. Others will be bounced from one foster care placement to another, never knowing when their lives will be uprooted next. Too many will be further abused in systems that are supposed to protect them. Instead of being safely reunified with their families — or moved quickly into adoptive homes — many will languish for years in foster homes or institutions.

Our Mission

Enable every child in foster care to enter life successfully by having the education, nurturing home environment, and encouragement needed to succeed.

The Stats

Foster care is a temporary service provided by state child welfare agencies for children who, due to any number of circumstances including neglect and abuse, cannot live under the care of one or both biological parents. Among the effects of foster care on children that have been documented are psychological and/or emotional trauma and a host of other emotional, developmental, and behavioral issues. Learn More

Our Programs

We are raising awareness about foster care and to fix the most pressing and challenging issues that many young people in foster care face, from entering to transitioning out, and that can affect foster youth into their adult lives if not addressed. we do this three ways:

People from around the world dress up in blue in honor of the kids currently in foster care and to stand in solidarity with all those who have been impacted by the foster care system. #GoBlueDay - National Foster Care Awareness Day happens the first Tuesday in May to kick off Foster Care Awareness Month.

Change A Life uses the power of entertainment to raise awareness and funds to fund projects that will improve the lives of those in foster care and those transitioning out of foster care. Change A Life is the charitable extension of The Foster Project.
